I’m embarking on my own “10 week Movement Plan for Action”!

And I thought, what better way to demonstrate what it is that I do in the gym to help my clients, than to share my journey with you, warts and all! You can read my first installment below.

An honest share

For those of you who aren’t familiar, pre-kids I was an avid CrossFit-er. I trained 5-6 times per week, fell in love with the barbell and with Olympic lifts. I enjoyed the gymnastic components of workouts and hated running. (I still hate running) I met my husband at our old CrossFit gym and enjoyed training right up until just weeks before the birth of my first. I think it’s fair to say I was quite fit and strong.

And then, as is the case with so many new parents, it all changed. A slow and progressive decline over the years. Until now, nearly 7 years later, here I am, in the worst physical condition I have ever been in my 45 years. You probably couldn’t tell just looking at me, my profile hasn’t changed much but, my ability to “move efficiently and well” has seriously declined over these years. Embarrassingly, I have to admit that on occasion I find myself having to mask what a physical challenge it is for me to correctly demonstrate movements in the gym I used to perform with ease!

With such a love of the sport of Crossfit in particular, lack of desire or motivation has never been the barrier to exercise for me nor my husband. Sleep, more specifically a monumental, gruelling, seemingly infinite lack of sleep has been our handicap. Rendering us considerably challenged to simply get through each day, let alone add on the physical demands of a strength & conditioning workout. And whilst we’re not getting good sleep just yet, I’m hopeful the extremes of sleep deprivation are behind us and that this year, we might make a successful return to some semblance of a physical regime.

So, with fingers & toes crossed for nights with only minor disturbance here onwards, I take my first step on the road to the NEW ME:
